Visiting the cities and nature of Vietnam
Vietnam is located in South East Asia and unfortunately famous for all the wars it has been through. Nowadays, the country is changing quickly and is now a well known tourist destination for its history and natural beauty. The places to visit in the Northern part of Vietnam are Hanoi, the wonderful Ha Long Bay, the rice-fields around Sapa and the karst mountains of Tam Coc. In the center of the country there are the charming towns of Hue and Hoi An. If you go further south you can visit Nha Trang, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Ho Chi Minh city and the Mekong delta. The main cities is not what draws in all the tourists because they are quite busy, but it is the history and scenery. Around Hue, you can visit the tombs of the former emperors and sailing through Ha Long bay is almost a surreal experience. Because Vietnam is not very wide, but long (banana-shaped), the distance between North and south is significant. The reunification railway runs between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city and stops at most of the tourist places and is convenient to travel with. Alternatively there is a bus for which you can buy a bus pass at most ho(s)tels. Many of the tourist hot-spots offer day tours to the surroundings. The weather is changeable and differs significantly between the North and the South. There are many micro-climates and it is almost impossible to visit the whole country without running into some rain. As with many other countries, the food comes usually served with rice, but because it has such a large coast line, there are many meals with fish. Most people who visit Vietnam will need a visa for which they will need to apply in advance. Vietnam has been starring in many movies and unfortunately most of these have been war films showing you all the battlefield during the conflict. Vietnam today is a thriving country with a young population. |
