Visiting the castle in Stirling

The town Stirling is most famous for its castle. The castle is located on a hill and one of the best examples of castle in Scotland. It has been recently restored and largely brought back into its original state. When visiting this castle it is obvious that the royalty who lived here enjoyed a wealthy environment. There are several decorations which have a great attention to detail. The royal palace has on the outside many statues and inside there are several impressive murals. Other places within the castle complex include the Great hall, Chapel royal, the gunpowder storage and Queen Anne garden. It is also possible to walk on parts of the defense walls.

Nearby the castle, but a moderate walk away lies King's Knot which allows you to see the typical view of the castle on the hill. From the castle you can see the William Wallace monument which takes a prominent place on top of the hill. Stirling also has a small town center which includes the Holy Rude church, the old jail and Stirling Baptist church. The old town is not big as it is a typical small Scottish town, but is a pleasant place to walk around as traffic is very low.

Getting to Stirling is straightforward as it is well connected by bus and train from EdinburghGlasgow and other towns such as Perth and Dundee so it can be easily visited as a day trip.
