Sightseeing in Liverpool

In the north of England and close to Manchester lies the city of Liverpool. The city is most famous for The Beatles which grew up here and there are several places which are a reminder of them such as Penny lane. When Liverpool became European capital of culture in 2008, investments were made in the city which has improved its attractiveness to visitors, especially around the waterfront. The waterfront has been done up and the Liver buildings look like they did in former days.

Other sights worth visiting in Liverpool include St. George's Hall, the Liverpool central library, the St. Nicholas and Our Lady church, Albert dock and the Liverpool metropolitan Cathedral. The city is relatively small so you can walk everywhere. Because it is in the north of England the weather is not the greatest, but you might get lucky and arrive on a sunny day. In case it does rain, most of the museums in Liverpool are free so it would be a good opportunity to check out the Merseyside maritime museum or the Victoria Gallery and museum.

Liverpool is also famous for the Beatles which originated here. You will find many places you recognize from their music such as Penny Lane. If you are interested, you can visit 'The Beatles Story' which is a museum dedicated to the Beatles only. Being located close to the coast and in the north or England Liverpool does receive its fair bit of rain.

For those who want to get out of Liverpool there are several places to go such as Manchester and Sheffield which can be visited as a day trip and are connected by train.
