Hiking in the Lake district

The Lake district is a national park located in the north of England about 65 miles above Manchester. The area has nice scenery and is one of the most visited nature surroundings in Britain. It is an ideal place for hiking as it is quite hilly and scenic. There are several charming towns such as Ambleside and Kendal located throughout the Lake district, many which are built in a historical style.

If you like hiking, there are many walks around the district. For trekking several days, you can just hike from one village to another and stay in a youth hostel or other lodges which are dotted around the Lake district. It is also possible to rent a cottage for a few days and explore the region from there by going into different directions. Being in the north of England does make the weather changeable so it is worthwhile to check the weather forecast before setting off and bringing a rain jacket. On a clear day the views are amazing and adding to this the scenery which is mostly green makes it an ideal day out.

Getting to the Lake district is best done by car as public transportation is somewhat limited, although not impossible. The most straightforward way of visiting this area by public transportation is to take a train from Manchester to Windermere and then walk to the lakes or hike around the open fields. On of the hills which allows you to get some unobstructed views is Wansfell pike which is only a short walk away from Ambleside village.
