Things to see in Bath
|
Bath is located in the southwest of England, close to Bristol in the county of Somerset. The city is a world heritage site and when you walk through the city it is easy to see why. Some of its history takes you back to Roman times and the best example of this are the Roman baths which can still be visited today. Medieval architecture followed quickly, shown by Bath Abbey which is its main religious building.
Later Georgian architecture was widely applied to places such as the Circus and the Royal Crescent. The Royal Crescent is a remarkable place as it is a number of large terraced houses with in front a large field of grass and has become the most recognizable landmark of Bath. On a sunny day expect many people there to enjoy the good weather. Another place to visit is the Pulteney Bridge which crosses the river Avon. If you walk around it along the river, the classic view of Bath will come to you where you actually see the bridge crossing the Avon. There are several other sights such as St. John the evangelist church and the Victoria monument. If you visit Bath in late December, it is possible to go to the Bath Christmas market.
To get around it is easy enough to walk everywhere as Bath is a medium sized city (84.000 inhabitants). There are also city bus tours available if you want to make it easy. |
