Thailand and apparently the hottest capital of the world. That is regarding to the warm weather and when visiting Bangkok at its hottest in April this city can be exhausting. Bangkok is a massive city with over 11 million inhabitants. The main tourist sights and hotels are located around the notoriously famous Khao San road. This road is a collection of restaurants, bars and street vendors and provides much of the entertainment for the evening. The main tourist attraction in Bangkok is the royal palace which is an impressive complex of royal buildings and temples. To enter the royal palace you will have to wear long trousers and a decent t-shirt. Given the average temperature in Bangkok, it is best to visit it in the morning. Close to the palace is the foreign ministry located which has an impressive facade There are many smaller temples dotted around the city. The larger ones are Wat Arun which is an old temple located near the river and Wat Pho which is located close to the royal palace. Other temples include Wat Suthat, Loha Prasat and the marble temple. If you have little time visit the temples close to the democracy monument. As there are a few clustered together you get a good impression of different Thai temples. For a view over Bangkok, climb to the temple on top of the Golden Mount. Many of the sights are located around Khao San Road and are easy to walk to. One of these sights a bit further away is the Samakhom throne hall. For the sights that are further away a Rickshaw or tuk-tuk is recommended as public transportation is time-consuming and less comfortable. There are also river taxi's. For a day trip out of Bangkok you can visit the ancient city Muang Boran which lies a few kilometers outside of Bangkok or the historical city of Ayuthaya.
