Thailand, the ultimate holiday destination in South-East Asia

Thailand is the most visited tourist destination in the whole of Asia and for good reason. The people are friendly, the food is excellent and there are many things to do. From nice beaches with clear blue water to ancient temples, a cosmopolitan city and green jungles. The influx of all the tourists might make it less of an 'unique' experience but Thailand is still highly recommendable and one of the top destinations in Asia. Most people who go to Thailand will arrive in Bangkok which is a hot city and sometimes referred to as a concrete jungle. Still, there are many things to see in Bangkok such as the royal palace or the notorious Khao San road. For the best beaches of Thailand head south to the Andaman coast to the beaches of the Phi Phi Islands and Raileh or to the gulf of Thailand to the beaches of Koh Tao (excellent for diving and snorkelling, Koh Samui and famous for its full moon parties, the island of Koh Phangan. Besides its relaxing beaches Thailand also has a rich cultural history. Many old temples can be found in Ayutthaya or Sukothai which were former capitals of Thailand and give a good impression of Thailand's past. For trekking through jungle, go up north to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai or the town of Pai. Getting around Thailand is as easy as you will find it in Asia as there are many bus services which depart to and from all main tourist destinations. There is also a (sleeper) train, but this can fill up early as there are limited spaces available. Alternatively, there are many cheap flights available to get you across the country. Thailand is also a great place for Asian food. Many of the little street-vendors sell excellent food and most of them will do a better job than the restaurants. The weather varies considerably between the wet season (from May to November) or the dry season. The shoulder seasons are good to visit as well.
