Sightseeing in Barcelona

For many people, Barcelona is the place to visit in Spain. One of the things you will notice immediately when getting to Barcelona is the influence of Gaudi on the city. His famous artwork is to be seen everywhere in buildings, but also smaller monuments and parks.

Barcelona is a good mixture of an old charming city center with Las Ramblas as its main artery and some nice beaches to lay down and relax. It also hosts the large church Sagrada Familia which is still due to be finished. From the outside the Sagrada Familia looks impressive, but inside there is still a lot of construction work going on. It is possible to climb one of the towers which is a bit claustrophobic, but it provides a nice view over Barcelona. The other main sights of Barcelona include the Cathedral of St. Eulali, the Columbus Monument and the Triumphal arch.

One nice place to visit is the Hospital de Sant Pau which is built in a unique style and surprisingly not much visited, but highly recommended. For a bit of culture you can visit the Fundacio Joan Miro Picasso museum which hosts several paintings from the master himself. To relax, Barcelona has many parks, squares and beaches making this city an ideal place to visit and not getting bored.

Getting around Barcelona is easy as many of the sights are in walking distance. However, some places such as the Gaudi park are a bit further away, but the Renfe metro takes you there quite easily.
