Exploring the beautiful countryside of Morocco

The countryside of Morocco is a unique mixture of old villages and mosques, agriculture land, oasis, moon-like landscapes, barren scrub and mountains. Taking a tour through this place is well worth as you get to see many different parts of the country which give a good impression of the natural beauty of Morocco. What makes the Moroccan countryside most interesting is the constant change of scenery along the way. One moment you are driving between amazing rock formations, than go past an old village with traditional mud houses or a Kasbah and before you know it you are in the middle of flat barren scrub. In addition to this, the colors appear to change constantly because of the different positioning of the sun. At some places the scenery changes into a scene from a wild west movie where you have a large rock formation rising above the red and yellow desert. Another interesting part is that several pieces of land are being used for agricultural purposes, often in the shape of an oasis where you have small rivers passing through and many palm trees. Combine this with a fair bit of sunshine and it makes an ideal location to visit or do a road trip.

The easiest way to see some of the countryside is through a tour. You can book these from almost any tour operator in Marrakech. Usually they include the Tizi n'Tichka pass, Ait Benhaddou, Quarzazate, the valley of roses, the Dades valley and the beautiful Todra gorge. The final destination is the Sahara desert where you will do some camel riding and stay there for the night. The three day tour takes you to most places, although at some you will stop only very briefly. Morocco is largely desert, so the landscapes are different to that of many African countries or Europe and also its Islamic culture provides a different experience. Taking a road trip through Morocco is one of the best ways to experience a completely different culture.
