Sightseeing in GalwayIn the west of Ireland near the coast is the pretty city of Galway located. According to many, Galway represents some of the best of Ireland where everyone has a good time. The city center is small and can be easily navigated on foot. There is an old university, NUI Galway which is worth visiting and is built in the style of an historical English college. It has a nice courtyard and when you walk through the gates it feels like stepping back in time. Galway does not have a long list of attraction, but other sights include the Saint Nicholas cathedral, the town hall and the courthouse. Off course there are many Irish pubs, but in contrast to other Irish cities, in Galway they appear to have maintained more of the traditional Irish character and atmosphere. Unfortunately being located in a bay in the far west of Europe and nothing in between them and the USA except for the Atlantic ocean, it rains a lot here. Often it is more drizzle than heavy showers, but don't expect a full week without any rain. For a trip out of Galway you can visit the ring of Kerry and visit the many scenic views and castles along the way. The city of Galway was made more famous by Sharon Shannon with the song 'Galway Girl'. Every last Monday of July there the Galway horse races are being held which is the longest of all race meets in Ireland.
