Goslar travel pictures

Things to see in Goslar

A small charming city located in the middle of Germany near the Harz mountains is Goslar. It is not world famous, but it is pretty as its old town city center is full of history with many examples of houses constructed with wooded beams and plaster in between. Many of the sights are from the medieval period such as Goslar Cathedral and the Imperial palace.

The Old town is listed as an UNESCO world heritage sight which has attracted much of its tourism. The city is quite small (around 43.000 inhabitants) but the benefit is that it is easy to navigate by foot and you can take some time explore the smaller street. Getting to Goslar is easy by train as it has its own train station. Its location in the almost exact middle of Germany makes it close to most cities, but none of the big cities such as Frankfurt and Berlin are really close by which could limit your time there when you visit Goslar on a day trip.

For a short trip out of town you could visit the mines of Rammelsberg where minerals such as silver ore , copper and lead has been found. The mines are now closed as the mineral deposits has been largely exhausted, but a visitors center showing some of the old mining techniques still remains.
