Sightseeing in Grenoble
|
Grenoble is a historical city in France, located next to the Alps. It has an attractive city center which has maintained its historical look and feel. In the old town there are several interesting sights such as the St. Andre church, the palace of justice and the Notre Dame cathedral.
One of the highlights of Grenoble is Place de Verduri. This a large square with around the the city prefecture and the museum of fine arts. This place has retained its old look and feel and when traffic is low it feels like you are stepping back in time. For a bit of quietness, the park Paul Mistral is an ideal place to escape the city. In this park is also the tower Tour Perret located. This tower was built in 1925 for an exhibition on water power and still stands today. One place which should not be missed is the waterfront near the river Isere. It consists of a row of old houses and provide Grenoble with its unique look.
The nearby mountain provides a nice background to top off the picturesque setting. On top of this hill is the Fort de la Bastille located. To get there, it is possible to walk up which takes a bit of effort, but is rewarding or alternatively, take the cable car. Grenoble is well connected by rail to other French cities and close to its own but also Lyon airport. |
